Director's BioMonique Hazeur is a storyteller. Her passion for storytelling is directly linked to her mom’s side of the family. Growing up and still as an adult, her mom's family was constantly captivating her with their one-upmanship in storytelling. This exposure quietly left an indelible mark on her creative spirit and later, though not as quietly, reemerged in her need to share stories from her own unique POV. She is particularly interested in engrossing stories that enchant our imaginations and authentically depict the complexity and beauty of our community. A good story has the power to move you to new ways of seeing and thinking and it is her desire to tell good stories.
Her passion for storytelling currently extends to the written, cinematic, and culinary arts (yes, food indeed tells a story and her taste buds thank the good storytellers)! Art production also holds a special place in her heart, since it adds yet another layer to character and to the overall story. She has worked in the art department on such films as Pariah, Gut, and The Nanny. She is an alumna of Howard University's graduate film program and National University’s professional screenwriting program. She also received a B.S. in Social Work with a minor in Anthropology from NYU and pursued a career in neither, but her student loans are very real. Unexpectedly, she discovered her passion for screenwriting and films while working in the music industry at Sony BMG. A native of Bay St. Louis, Mississippi, she currently calls Brooklyn home. |
